Beautiful kids

Pics of children have always been my favorites. Take a look at these two beautiful postcards that I'm lucky to have on my collection!

From my friend Ju, who went to Peru

From a private swap with a fellow postcrosser in Vietnam

Postcard Thursday #7

A couple of weeks ago I received this totally unexpected postcard. It was sent by a friend of mine who doesn't penpal. He just knows me too well and knows that I love cats, heros and mainly snail mail. I felt so happy that he took his time to go to the post office simply to make me smile!
Who else loves getting surprise mail from surprising senders?

Postcard Thursday #6

Do you like postcards with wild animals? I do! And I am fascinated for bears and beavers, animals we don't have in Brazil. I really loved these postcards my friend Jessica, from Canada, sent me - I can make my own paper animals out of it. But I won't, because I want to keep them as real cards for my collection!

Postcard Thursday #5

Today's postcards are very special to me because they were the first ones I received from Postcrossing almost two years ago, so they basically started my collection! I have a few ones that I'd received before, but I wasn't collecting yet. The night I came home and found my first official Postcrossing cards I knew something was about to become an addiction, though.

Postcard Thursday #4

Today's postcard has a little story behind it.

It was sent from a postcrosser. We actually exchanged postcards and she had a blog about homeschooling. By then, she wrote a post about her little daughter being very curious about Elvis Presley, and she wondered how the girl even found out about him, for starters.

I soon thought of Lilo & Stitch and told you that maybe the girl heard of Elvis from the movie. Then she was all like "of course, I should have thought of that!". After that, she sent me this postcard:

It came from Memphis, where his home "Graceland" is. And I really like it. I am a fan of Elvis' music, and actually dance it very frequently. But what makes this postcard more special is the story behind it.

Have you ever exchanged a few messages with a random postcrosser, other than "thanks for the card"? It is a cool experience, and gives me the real feeling about Postcrossing.

Postcard Thursday #3

Hello, everyone! Today's Postcard Thursday is about one of the beloved postcards that I brought from Canada.

I found this card very funny because, indeed, I spent one month in Canada and haven't seen any of those things. I can't complain at all, but I surely wish I had seen at least a moose. Come on, I have never seen a moose!

Besides the joke, this postcard makes me think. It makes me remember of all the stereotypes I heard about Canada right before my trip, and the stereotypes about Brazil that I always hear. These things actually bother me a lot, to know that some people think they actually know something about a country they'd never been to, and they think they can judge this country and their people. Of course most time it's harmless stereotypes, but still it's kind of awkward when it's your country people are talking about.

I think people should be open to learn about other countries. So, I'm here to ask you, reader, something: is there something interesting or some fun fact that people don't usually know (and don't even imagine) about your country? Please, share it with me! I'm eager to learn. :)

Postcard Thursday #2

This Thursday's Postcard is related to my history. My grandparents were immigrants in Brazil, coming from a northern small village in Portugal named Bragança. I'd always heard stories from my grandma, of how she (between her 14 siblings) was in charge of looking after the sheeps, and how she used to sleep on the grass while doing it. Also, she told stories about her family, their trips (by walking!) to Spain and many other memories.

Two years ago I became a member of Postcrossing and decided to look for a postcard from this place, that is my origin. And I found a nice guy who was available for a swap. Here are the postcards he sent me:

He said that he likes to lay on the grass after lunch, for a nap, just like my grandmother did. I showed her this postcard, but I'm not sure if she could recognize her homeplace, after so many years.

It is very interesting to get to know about my origins. I hope someday I'll get to visit this place.
Does anyone else have a foreign parentage?

Postcard Thursday #1

Hey there!
As you may infer from the title above, I'm about to start a series of regular themed posts. It will be named Postcard Thursday and, spoiler alert, it's about postcards. Actually, about my collection of postcards. Every two weeks, on thursday, I'll show you all one or two of my cards and tell you something about it. :)
The reason why it will happen only every two weeks is that I'm planning another theme for the other weeks. Wait for it!

As a special start, I'll show you my collection of Pixar postcards!

Some of you may have seen these cards already, at Postcrossing or at some blog. But you have no idea of how rare this kind of thing is, here in Brazil. I found this awesome box at a geek bookstore and was like ~I MUST HAVE IT.
(to make a more dramatic effect, you can imagine that it's very rare to me to by gifts to myself)

The postcards have images from some Pixar movies like Toy Story (1 and 2), A Bug's Life, Monsters Inc., The Incredibles, Cars, Finding Nemo, ... and also from those lovely Pixar short movies.
I could have selected my favorites to show you here, but that would take a lifetime, as everytime I open that box, I discover something special about some of the cards. Instead, I selected some random cards. My picture show some storyarts, as well as Andy's drawing of his toys and a true postcard from Radiator Springs.

As a complement to my collection, I asked my good friend Teresa, in the States (thank you dear!), to send me some Pixar stamps. Now I keep them together as a Pixar postal stuff collection. And I love it.

Do you also love Pixar movies? Which one is your favorite?

Oh, and please tell me if you like my idea of Postcard Thursdays. :) Happy thursday everyone!
